KING

CORONATION BLOG

Today an earthly King may have been crowned but we have been reminded repeatedly throughout the ceremony that our sovereign is King Jesus, the King of Kings rules, and reigns.

Monarchist or not, if you are a Christian, you can only be thoroughly encouraged that scripture has such a prominent place in the life of our nation.

It was refreshing to see the beauty of the moment the moderator on the Church of Scotland the Rt Rev Dr Iain Greenshields handed the Bible to his majesty King Charles III.

The Bible was handed over as the means by which the King is to be reminded of the Gospel of God as the rule for the whole of his life and government.  The word of God is given as the most valuable thing this world has to offer. It is offered as wisdom and is set above all human laws.

The presentation of the Bible and the language that accompanied it is a reminder that careful and prayerful attention to the Bible is at the heart of Christian worship and devotion, as well as being the foundation of so much of British life.

Come, Holy Spirit Come and anoint us all that we may know this truth and treat Gods word with the reverence, honour and respect that it commands.

In that word we are told that King Jesus came to serve and if the life of a servant is good enough for Jesus and it is good enough for King Charles III, then it good enough for us all. Let us all serve.

The King has taken on a mighty commission, but the commission is ours too. We are to serve God and serve others in the same way as the King, we are to serve like Jesus. We may not have the command of princes and government at our disposal but in our own spheres of influence, we are to seek Gods word for wisdom and live lives according to it. We are to hold the word of God up as our rule of life.

The word of God is wisdom and we are told of her ways in the book of Proverbs Ch 3.

17           Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace.

18           She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her; those who hold her fast will be blessed.

19           By wisdom the LORD laid the earth’s foundations, by understanding he set the heavens in place;

20           by his knowledge the watery depths were divided, and the clouds let drop the dew.

21           My son, do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight, preserve sound judgment and discretion;

22           they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck.

23           Then you will go on your way in safety,    and your foot will not stumble.

All the wisdom in the world is no use to us unless we live by it. So our challenge is to live out the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the same way as the Apostle Paul did.

 Rom. 1:16          For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes.

The King is Risen. Long Live the King!
